Good Food and Good Fun for Blaine County Kids

The Lunch Connection Serves Up Free Lunch at Woodside Elementary Starting June 14

The Hunger Coalition teams up again with the Blaine County School District to sponsor The Lunch Connection, offering free meals to kids during the summer.  Being a kid requires a lot of energy. During the school year, students qualifying for assistance can rely on free or reduced cost breakfast and lunch at their school cafeteria.  To ensure the kids in Blaine County enjoy a healthy and productive summer, The Lunch Connection is here to serve nutritious, satisfying meals.

Good nutrition is important all year long, especially in growing children.  This vital summer food program offers peace of mind to parents, teachers, and students alike.  From June 14 through August 20, free lunch is available weekdays to children ages 1 – 18 from 11am – 12 noon.  All meals are served at the Woodside Elementary School located on Woodside Blvd. between Berry Creek and Cherry Creek Road on the southern end of Woodside. The start of summer school on July 19 adds breakfast to the menu weekdays between 7:30 – 8:30 am until August 13 when the session ends.

Thanks to The Environmental Resource Center, Wild Lunch will again be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 14 – July 8, with volunteers engaging the kids in fun activities from 11am - 1pm.  The Bellevue Public Library will also host special after lunch “story time” days on July 13 and 15.  For a complete list of dates and times, please visit our website at www.thehungercoalition.org.

With more than 6,000 free meals served last year through The Lunch Connection, The Hunger Coalition is thrilled to have the ability to continue this vital program for another season.  Adults accompanying their children to The Lunch Connection can purchase a meal for themselves, with breakfast costing $1.75 and lunch $3.00.

Woodside Elementary School can be reached by bus on Mountain Rides with a northbound stop at Berry Creek and southbound at Cherry Creek.  Volunteers and questions are always welcome!   Please call The Hunger Coalition at 788-0121 or email: info@thehungercoalition.org for more information.

Founded in 2003, the Blaine County Hunger Coalition strives to end hunger in our community by providing wholesome food to those in need and by promoting solutions to the underlying causes of hunger through collaboration, education and advocacy.
