Silver Creek Writers’ Residency 2015

By Print Preview

The Wood River Valley’s literary history is about to change with the launch of The Silver Creek Writers’ Residency in 2015. Making its home in Ketchum and Sun Valley, the tax-exempt, non-profit literary organization will offer writers’ residencies to emerging authors as well as writing conferences, workshops and lectures to the public.

Founded by Bill Fowler, executive director of The Silver Creek Writers’ Residency, the Wood River Valley’s newest residency program has been a long-time dream of Fowler.

“Creating The Silver Creek Writers’ Residency is an opportunity for our community to embrace the talents of emerging and early-career writers,” Fowler said. “Providing a residential refuge and studio space that inspires writers and helps them create literary projects of significance is the mission of the residency. We also want to increase visitorship to the valley and support the community of writers working and living here.”

The residency plans to host fellows in several writing genres throughout the year and will offer writers the opportunity to experience Wood River Valley cultural events such as the Sun Valley Film Festival, Sun Valley Writers’ Conference, the Sun Valley Harvest Festival and the Hemingway Festival.

The residency plans to include a two-day public conference featuring seminars and workshops on the craft of writing, and it will offer informal writing groups for those who want to connect with other writers or simply get past writer’s block or procrastination.

“For the long term,” Fowler said. “We hope to create a ‘New Voices of the American West’ literary prize, which will be juried and recognize literary achievement.”

The Silver Creek Writer’s Residency seeks the support of the Wood River Community in hopes that fellows can be provided with live and work accommodations as well as have the opportunity to learn about the area through its stewards.
